Is this group free to join?
Yes! Joining the Facebook group and attending most events is completely free. Some special events may have a small ticket price to cover venue costs.
Do I have to be from Grand Rapids?
WMSC is based in West Michigan, but members come from all over the region — Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, Muskegon, and beyond. If you're willing to travel to events, you're welcome.
Is this a dating group?
It's primarily a friendship and community group. That said, many members have met romantic partners here — including through our FriendZone events and Stoplight Dance Parties. The bracelet system (green = single/open to dating) makes it easy to signal your intentions.
I have social anxiety. Is this group for me?
Absolutely. We have a Shy Friendly Hangout subgroup specifically for people who are working on their social anxiety. Many of our members joined because they were nervous — and found this to be the most welcoming group they'd ever been in.
How do I join a Social Family?
Social Family sign-ups are posted in the Facebook group seasonally. Join the group and watch for announcements. They fill up quickly!
I want to start a subgroup. How do I do that?
Reach out through the contact form or message Allie in the Facebook group. We love when members take initiative and start new subgroups.
